A familiar face to many, Davaris Cheeks has been named the new Director of the Dr. Cheryl T. Chatman Diversity Center on the CSP campus. Davaris is a 2023 graduate of CSP, having earned his B.A. in Public Relations & Image Management, and is currently pursuing his M.A. in Leadership and Management at CSP Global.

As the new Director of the Diversity Center, Davaris brings his own personal experiences to forge a vision for how the Center can bring the greatest value to students and the university as a whole. He will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Diversity Center, working closely with Chief Diversity Officer Mychal Thom to continue building out the purpose and programs that help students of all backgrounds thrive at CSP.

“The Diversity Center helped me from day-1 as a CSP student. It helped me connect with other students, set my personal goals, and become part of the fabric of CSP throughout my undergraduate years,” Davaris noted. “In this new position, I see great opportunities to help students and faculty experience that same type of connectedness. Ultimately, we can help people thrive and truly be part of our community.”

Davaris was extremely active in student leadership during his undergraduate time at CSP. A member of the Golden Bears Football team, Student Body President, and President of the Black Student Union, Davaris has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills that will help him excel in his new role. He was also the recipient of the MLK Student Leadership Award and Emerging Leader of the Year – both in 2021.

“Davaris brings exceptional skills, a dynamic personality, and tremendous vision to his new role leading the Diversity Center,” noted Mychal Thom, CSP’s Chief Diversity Officer. “We’re excited about the ways he can apply his own experiences and creative thinking to help our increasingly diverse student body achieve their potential.”

Davaris starts his new role on April 1, 2024.
