Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program

Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with our scholarship program for the 5th year. Students will submit an essay on the topic that appears on the scholarship page.

AES Engineers

The consulting firm of AES Engineers is committed to continuing its support of higher education by providing scholarships to deserving students. To be eligible the student needs to answer one of the essay questions that they will find on the scholarship webpage.

Affinity Plus Foundation Academic Scholarship Program

The Affinity Plus Foundation was chartered in 2000 to promote literacy and money management skills to people throughout Minnesota. Its mission is to help people better the quality of their lives and acheive financial literacy through the funding of sound personal financial education, understanding, and management programs. Since its formation, the Foundation has made significant strides toward that goal by funding and supporting a variety of programs and providing $25,000 each year in educational scholarships to deserving students. A total of five $5,000 scholarships will be awarded between four seperate divisions: Freshmen, Upperclassmen, Nontraditional students, and Masters/Doctoral. Applicants must be individual members of Affinity Plus. Applications are available in the Financial Aid office.

Anna M. Kuhl Scholarship

The Anna M. Kuhl Scholarship Fund will award scholarships to students of strong character and integrity, who reside in St. Paul or nearby communities. To be eligible to apply for this scholarship the student must be:

  • A long term resident of St. Paul or a nearby community and have resided in an eligible community for the past year.
  • Enrolled or plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study.

Audrey Erskine Scholarship

Applicants for the Audrey Erskine Scholarship must be:

  • Pursuing a course of study to become a teacher at the preschool, elementry, or secondary level.
  • A current member of Education Minnesota Student Program.
  • Currently a student in their Junior or Senior year of college.
  • Amount of Award: $350 to $500
  • Deadline: June 1, 2013.

B. Davis Scholarship

Biermann Memorial Scholarship

The Biermann Memorial Scholarship is open to all current members of LC–MS congregations located in the state of Missouri who are attending any synodical Higher Education institution and working toward a degree that leads to a career in church work.  Those who are in their vicarage or internship year are not eligible for scholarship funds for that academic year.  Scholarship funds will be awarded each June for the following academic year.

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

CEO of Tomorrow Scholarship

As a source for CEO news and inspiration for chief executives, CEO.com is interested in the success of not only the business leaders of today, but also the CEOs of tomorrow.
For this reason, we are awarding a $2,500 scholarship to students interested in business leadership and/or entrepreneurship. The following submissions are required to be considered for the scholarship: (1) A short online survey and (2) a 500-1000 word essay on “the CEO of tomorrow”. Possible topics could include (but are not limited to) company structure, company culture or utilization of technology.

Great Lakes STEM Scholarships

Students majoring in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) disciplines, may be eligible to receive $2,500 scholarships under the new Great Lakes National Scholarship Program. Up to 750 scholarships totaling $1.875 million will be awarded to new and continuing students who qualify.

To be eligible, a student must:

  • Be enrolled full-time with a major in a STEM discipline at a public or private two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Deadline: Scholarship applications will be accepted through May 11, 2012, or until 20,000 applications have been received. Finalists will be notified by June 1, 2012.

Helen N. & Harold B. Shapira Heart Undergraduate Scholarship

In 1969 the Helen N. & Harold B. Shapira Undergraduate Scholarship was established to assist young men and women pursuing degrees in medicine and science.  This $1,000 scholarship award is given annually to an undergraduate student enrolled in a four year Minnesota college or university and working in a medically related curriculum with potential application to patients with diseases of the heart and blood vessel system.

Hispanic College Fund Scholarship

The Hispanic College Fund scholarship program is now accepting applications! The program is open to students of Hispanic background majoring in business, finance, accounting, computer science, computer engineering, IT, hospitality management, hotel management, culinary, food & beverage, and many more! Scholarships awards are up to $10,000.

IME/LEDC Latino Scholarship Fund

Latino entrepreneurs, community leaders, local foundations, and local businessess have come together to develop a scholarship fund aimed at supporting talented, aspiring Latino students who would like to build their futures through higher education. At least one scholarship award of $3,000 is available. To be eligible to apply for this scholarship the student must be:

  • A student from Mexico in their first year of study at any MN institution of post-secondary education.
  • Deadline: March 2012

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Transfer Scholarship Lutheran Community Foundation

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship honors excellence by supporting outstanding community college students with financial need to transfer to and complete their bachelor’s degrees at the nation’s top four-year colleges and universities.

Lutheran Community Foundation

The Lutheran Community Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of scholarship awards from The Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of North Minneapolis Scholarship Program. Candidates for the scholarship awards must be members of a congregation in the Minnesota South District of the LCMS. Applicants must also meet the following qualifications:

  • Candidates must be in their third or fourth year of full-time study at an undergraduate university of the LCMS, or enrolled in a full time post-baccalaureate program at an LCMS university.
  • Candidates must be pursuing a career in professional ministry or lay ministry.
  • Deadline: May 31

Lutheran Women's Missionary League

The South Wisconsin District LWML has scholarships available for women preparing for church work in the LCMS. The number and amount of scholarships varies from year to year depending on funds available for that year. To be eligible to apply, the student must be:

  • An active female member of a congregation of the South Wisconsin District of the LCMS and a resident of the SWD prior to college.
  • Preparing for full-time service in the LCMS.
  • Enrolled as an undergraduate student.
  • Deadline: April 2012

The LWML Nebraska South District Scholarship purpose is to encourage men and women in the Nebraska South District LCMS congregations to become professional church workers by providing financial assistance for their education.  The money for this fund is a project of the LWML Nebraska South District through the mite box program.  The scholarship amount will be established each biennium at the District convention.  The District Gospel Outreach and Mission Grants Committee and a District Counselor shall be in charge of the scholarship program.  Any unused portion of the money remains the property of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League Nebraska South District.

Amount: $500 per academic year, $250.00 per semester, for each student selected.

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be from the Nebraska South District
  • Applicant must be enrolled as a full time student in a synodically affiliated college, university or seminary and be a member of the Luterhan Church - Missouri Synod or applicant can be enrolled in synod's Delto or Specific Ministry Pastor program.
  • Applicant must plan to be in full time professional service for the church upon completion of studies.

Deadline: Applications must be postmarked and mailed no later than June 1, 2013.

Florida-Georgia LWML

Criteria: Must have been a member of a congregation of the FL-GA, SELC or English District of the LC-MS in the states of Florida or Georgia for the eighteen (18) months prior to filing an application, and be enrolled full-time in a rostered church worker program.

Amount: $500 - $2,000 each will be awarded for the school year 2013-2014 depending on maintenance of GPA, and will be given in two installments, half at the beginning and half at mid-point of the school year.

MediCare Supplemental Insurance Therapy Professionals Scholarship

Medicare Supplemental Insurance is pleased to offer scholarships in support of disability awareness. Every year, a prospective or current college student will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship to help with the costs associated with attending school.

Qualified applicants are welcome to submit an essay of 500-1000 words detailing what they hope to achieve throughout their time in a therapy related career.

Applications will be collected and read by a panel comprised of members of the editorial staff of MedicareSupplementalInsurance.com, and one winner will be selected annually. The award will be distributed on January 15, 2013.

Mike Augustin Scholarship

Mike Augustin Scholarship

The Mike Augustin scholarship fund has been created in honor of the former St. Paul Pioneer Press sports writer.  Mr. Augustin covered Minnesota sports for many years.  He was especially fond of the Minnesota schools and their emphasis on a liberal arts education.

Believing in the importance of acknowledging the fine accomplishments of those who dedicate both time and energy in being a student, the Mike Augustin scholarship fund is offering four $500 scholarships to qualified applicants.

Qualification requirements include:

  1. Must be going to be a Junior or Senior, full-time college status for the enrollment year at a Minnesota College or University
  2. Must have a major interest in the field of communication studies or education
  3. Must have an accumulative GPA of 3.0 or above

Application requirements include:

  1. Submit a 1 page essay that includes your goals and future professional aspirations in your field of study.  You may want to include an experience that has been important in clarifying or strengthening your motivation for a career in communication studies or education.
  2. Provide a current college transcript.
  3. Provide one letter of recommendation.
  4. Completion of included application.
  5. Complete applications must be received by June 1 of the enrollment year.
  6. Previous winners are not eligible.

Military VA Loan - Disability Awareness Scholarship

MilitaryVALoan.com is pleased to offer scholarships in support of disability awareness. Every year, a prospective or current college student will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship to help with the costs associated with attending school.

Applicants should submit an essay between 500 and 1000 words about how they or someone they knew overcame disability to do something great. Clarinda's Glenn Miller Birthplace Society is offering scholarships of $4,000, $2,000 & $1,000 to instrumentalists. The vocal scholarships will also be $4,000, $2,000, and $1,000. These scholarships, which are awarded without regard to any other award, may be used for any education-related expense.

It is not the purpose of this competition to select Glenn Miller look-alikes or sound-alikes, nor is it limited to pop music performance. Rather, in honoring Glenn, we wish to seek out and assist promising young talents in any field of applied music who may be musical leaders tomorrow.

Minnesota Association of Public Accountants

The Minnesota Association of Public Accountants (MAPA) is a professional organization of accountants in public practice who provide accounting and financial statement services for individuals and small business firms.  Certified and non-certified accountants are encouraged to apply for membership.  The purpose of the Association is to further the knowledge of the practitioner and offer a source of current information and interplay of ideas among professionals.

  • Amount:  Varies, generally $750, based on number of qualified applicants.
  • Undergraduate students entering their junior, senior or fifth year and enrolled in a degree program at an accredited 4-year college or university, majoring in accounting with the intention to practice in the field of public accounting, and have at least a 2.5 or better grade point average. 
  • Must be U.S. citizens attending a U.S. accredited school and be a Minnesota resident.

Minnesota Heart Research Scholarships

The American Heart Association is working with partners to provide scholarships that allow students to explore the field of cardiovascular research as a career by providing opportunities to work with researchers at Minnesota institutions during June, July and August of 2012.

- Minnesota students only. One scholarship is for undergraduates.
- The scholars will be chosen on merit by an American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate committee of medical professionals and lay people.

Minnesota High Tech Association Foundation

The Minnesota High Tech Association Foundation (MHTF) scholarships are for Minnesota undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines.  These awards include $2,500 and $5,000 awards and can include internship opportunities at MHTA member companies.  MHTF supports diversity in this application and award process.

  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM field on in STEM teaching.
  • Only students with sophomore through senior academic status in the current school year may apply.  Sophomore status may include students who have achieved this status through advanced placement (AP) credit or post-secondary options (PSEO)s.
  • Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited, Minnesota-based higher education institution.
  • Deadline for application is March 31, 2013.

Missouri District of the Lutheran Laymen's League

The Missouri District of the Lutheran Laymen's League offers grants to students from the Missouri District attending one of the Concordia Colleges or Universities, and who plan to go into full time church work.  The grant is for one year and is renewable each year for a minimum of $100 per year.

My Recipe- My Heritage Scholarship Essay Contest

Both US citizens and foreign students currently attending a US college, university, or another institution of higher education are eligible to participate. The essay should explore the place culinary traditions hold in one's cultural/ethnic identity. The essay should include a favorite recipe that is of great personal significance. Essays may feature actual or fictional events, as long as both are historically accurate. Essays should display good knowledge and familiarity with one?s heritage.

  • Amount of Award: $1500, $750, and $500
  • Deadline: The contest will be closed for additional entries once the first 200 essays are received. Winners will be announced within 8 weeks after the last entry has been submitted.

North Suburban Communications Commission

The NSCC has a minimum of $30,000 worth of scholarships available for Communications students. Students living in the ten-city area that have completed at least one year of college or vocational program are encouraged to apply. Students who are eligible for this scholarship must:

Providian Medical Scholarship

Providian Medical, a  leading company in the sales and service of new and refurbished ultrasound, MRI, and CT medical equipment, is pleased to announce its first annual “Providian Medical Scholarship.” At Providian Medical, we believe that education is key for anyone preparing to enter the workplace and embark on a career. To that end, we hope to play a small part in helping students achieve their educational goals with this bi-annual $500 scholarship.

To apply for the scholarship, you must submit an original essay of up to 1,500 words that describes how medical equipment technology has changed the face of a college course and curriculum. Entries can also include a look toward the future and how this area of study will continue to evolve and advance.

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee made up of principles and employees of Providian Medical. The decision of the panel will be based on originality, research, and quality of the essay submitted. Any student planning for a medical or veterinary career is especially encouraged to enter, however, students on any career path are also welcome to apply.


Requirements for entry:
Must be enrolled at an accredited high school, college or university in the United States
Must be either in your final year of high school or enrolled at the undergraduate level in “good standing”
Must be age 16 or older
Must be attending a U.S.-based institution

RARE Educational Scholarship

The Robbinsdale Association of Retired Educators, RARE, announces a one year scholarship for persons pursuing a career in education. The amount of the scholarship(s) will depend upon the yearly donations from retired educators. In 2011, five (5) $1000.00 scholarships were awarded. Eligible recepients should fit into at least one of the following categories:

  • An individual who has already completed at least two years of college by September 2012 with plans to become a teacher.
  • An individual who wishes to make a career change within education.
  • A teacher wishing to change teaching fields.

U.S. Bank has 40 $1,000 scholarships available to high school seniors and college undergraduate students. Recepients will be determined randomly. To be eligible for a scholarship, the student must be:

  • A high school senior planning to enroll or a current college freshmen, sophomore, or junior at an eligible four-year college or univeristy.
  • Enrolled by September 2012
  • A United States citizen or permanent resident alien.

The Vincent L. Hawkinson Foundation is looking for students who demonstrate a commitment to peace and justice through one or more of these ways: a specific project, leadership in a peace/justice oranization, a courageous demonstration of commitment, or serving as a role model for others. The available scholarships for the Fall semester of 2012 are as follows:

  • Scholarships of $4,000 - $5,000 will be awarded in the fall of 2013.
