Jim FoundJim Found - Deployed
Starting in 1998, Jim taught several specialized courses for the Director of Christian Outreach majors at Concordia. He wrote the course "The Christian Response to the Religions of the World" in December 1997, shortly after returning from the mission field. This course focuses on how to explain Jesus to people of varied religious backgrounds. Jim taught "Life and Work on the Mission Field", which deals both with survival in foreign countries and developing strategies in a cross-cultural setting. Jim taught "Personal Witnessing", with an emphasis on relationship building and learning to make natural transitions to the topic of Jesus Christ. Among his administrative tasks for OHSCO, Jim keeps in touch with prospective CSP students who are considering the outreach major, and assists with conferences.

Jim was called in 1986 by LCMS World Mission. From 1986 to 1997 he served as a missionary on Taiwan. He was full-time evangelist on the campus of Concordia Middle/Senior High school, with responsibilities to introduce Christ to both students and faculty. From 1992 to 1997, he also served as head of the LCMS mission on Taiwan ("missionary counselor"). During these years he led workshops on evangelism and discipleship in both English and Chinese, in Taiwan and other places in Asia.

In 1997, LCMS World Mission and Concordia University arranged for Jim to spend half of his time teaching at Concordia University in St. Paul and assisting with OHSCO. The other half is spent doing projects for World Mission, including writing instructional material for mission training and providing bilingual material for new Christians. In 1988 LCMS World Mission published Jim's book Great Commission Living, which he uses as the basis for weekend workshops.

From 1980 to 1986, Jim was a Director of Christian Education in Wisconsin, responsible for youth, teacher training, and evangelism. In 1983, Bethany House published his book Basic Greek in 30 Minutes a Day. Jim has also written a Chinese tutor and a world history self-teaching guide. Jim graduated in 1962 from Valparaiso University with a major in music and a minor in education. He attended a workshop at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in 1963. He received an MA with a music major in 1967 from Ball State University in Indiana. He taught music and orchestra, led church choirs and taught church music workshops until taking the colloquy program at Concordia River Forest in 1980. He and his wife Sue have two married daughters and seven grandchildren. You can contact Jim at learner9696@yahoo.com.
