Marketing Students Selected to Pitch Campaign to Executives

UPDATE: Concordia's team placed runner-up and was awarded a $1,000 prize.

A group of senior marketing students from Concordia University, St. Paul has been selected as one of two teams to present at the 2014 Collegiate Effie awards in New York City, May 15.

CSP students Amanda Barton, Alyssa Frank, Erica Gress, Nicole Hamilton and Jennifer Khang will pitch their project titled “U Protects Me” in front of executives with an opportunity to win $2,000. The semester-long project was part of a marketing strategy class taught by Dr. Nancy Harrower.

For the 2014 challenge students were asked to develop a marketing strategy and campaign for the U by Kotex© brand. Students conducted primary and secondary research, analyzed findings, developed a “big idea”, created a marketing strategy, and developed advertising and promotional campaigns, including timelines and budgets.

Joining Concordia in New York is a team from Liberty University. All qualifying campaigns were reviewed and judged by industry professionals of various disciplines.

Established in 2010, the Collegiate Effie competition gives undergraduate students a chance to create comprehensive marketing communication cases that address real world challenges for real world marketers. Students are expected to think and act like professional marketers by developing a strategic, creative and effective solution to a marketing challenge proposed by their “client.”

Teams from Concordia received runner-up accolades for their enty in the 2013 collegiate challenge, and earned honorable mention honors for being a top-five finalist in 2012.
