This course will serve as an introduction to four major immigrant groups living in Minnesota: East Africans, Latinos, East Europeans, and Southeast Asians. An emphasis will be placed on history, culture, reasons for immigration and life in the U.S. Students will be encouraged to explore one group in-depth through readings, observations, interview and writings. In addition to mini-lecture and discussion, class time will allow for students to reflect on what they are learning and/or their experiences in their own communities.
