Coach Jonathan Breitbarth grew up on Minnesota's Iron Range in Chisholm, Minnesota. He attended Chisholm High School where he participated in Cross-Country, Hockey, Baseball, and Track and Field. Coach Breitbarth was a five time letter winner in Cross-Country, two time letter winner in hockey and three time letter winner in track. Jonathan served as captain of both the Cross-Country and Track and Field teams. Jonathan was all Iron-Range Conference in cross-country twice and track and field twice. Jonathan qualified for the Minnesota State Track and Field Meet as a sophomore in the 1600 meter run and as a Senior in the 800 meter run in track. Breitbarth was a qualifier for the Minnesota State Cross-Country Meet.

After graduation Coach Breitbarth attended the University of St. John's. At St. John's, Jonathan was a letter winner for two years in cross-country and track and field. Breitbarth finished eighth in the M.I.A.C. conference meet in the 1500 meter run.

At the beginning of Jonathan's junior year in college he transferred to Concordia College St. Paul where he studied Social Sciences and Lutheran Education. Jonathan was very active at Concordia. He was a two time Concordia Chiapuzzo Award nominee and a one time Concordia Athlete of the Year nominee. Jonathan was the Chiapuzzo Award winner his Senior year for the Athlete who best demonstrated the Christian Values that the Late John Chiapuzzo demonstrated. Breitbarth excelled in the classroom. He was a scholar athlete and on the dean's list every quarter he was at Concordia. He graduated with honors as Cum Laude.

In Cross-Country Jonathan was the Small School Championships Individual winner his junior year. He was on the All-C.I.T. (Concordia Invitational Tournament) team his Junior year. His Senior year, Jonathan was the U.M.A.C. Conference Runner-up, NAIA Great Plains All-Region Team Member, and finished in the top half of the NAIA National Meet.
In track Jonathan left Concordia with seven school records. He was the UMAC champion in the 800 meter run, 4 X 800, and 4 X 400 meter relay. He was the anchor of the 4 X 800 meter relay team that finished 16th at the NAIA National Indoor Championships.

Breitbarth's background also includes being the assistant cross-country coach at Mayer Lutheran High School in Mayer, Minnesota. In addition to his duties as head cross-country coach, Jonathan also is the Director of Computer Services in the Concordia University Information and Technology Department. He is currently working on his master's degree in Christian Outreach. He is married to Heidi Handrick.
