Florez is starting his 13th season as an assistant coach for the Golden Bears. During his tenure, he has coached five first team all-conference RBs, four second team RBs, and two honorable mention all-conference RBs. In addition, two RBs received national recognition, Eric Schutte led the nation with 21 rushing TDs in 1997 and Chris Washington was named all-Midwest Region and Offensive MVP in the 2003 Mineral Water Bowl. Washington left Concordia as the NSIC’s all-time leading rusher. The number six all-time rusher in school history (2,274 yards), Florez was named NAIA Midwest Player of the Week in September 1992 for his 52 carry (ranking third in the NAIA history books) performance against William Penn College. He was MVP of the 1993 team and a three-year all-conference RB. In addition, Joe’s football career landed him an induction into the Concordia University Athletic Hall of Fame (2004). Florez graduated from CSP in 1994 with a BA in marketing management. He enjoyed two years of semi-pro football with the St. Paul Wranglers (1995-96). He is also currently employed at CSP as the Director of Athletic Recruitment. He resides in Apple Valley, Minn.
