Marcus McKenzie is in his first year as an assistant coach at CU after completing his collegiate career at the University of Minnesota. Prior to pitching for the Golden Gophers, McKenzie spent his first year at the University of New Orleans.

At the U of M, Marcus tied for the most wins by a pitcher in the Big Ten last year when he went 7-1 on the season. Last June following his senior year McKenzie was signed by the St. Paul Saints. He was traded later that month to the Southern Illinios Miners of the Frontier League. He finished his rookie season 3-3.

During his prep career, Marcus played at Minnetonka High School where he lettered four times in baseball, once in basketball and twice in football for the Skippers. McKenzie was a three-time all-conference selection in baseball and was named all-conference twice in football. He was named the Metro Player of the Year in 2002 by the Star Tribune, was all-state twice in baseball and was an academic all-state selection in football as a senior.

McKenzie also played on the Excelsior American Legion team that won the Great Lakes Regional Tournament and went on to finish as National Runner-up in the 2002 American Legion World Series. He was named the American Legion Great Lakes Regional Most Outstanding Player and to the 2002 American Legion World Series All-Tournament Team.

Marcus is currently finishing his last semester at the U of M and is looking forward to his second season of professional baseball.
