Chemistry coursework at Concordia gives students a framework of knowledge that allows them to think, learn and incorporate new facts and concepts as the field evolves. Chemistry students benefit from a low faculty-to-student ratio that allows direct personal attention from professors who focus primarily on teaching rather than research. Students will often combine majors and minors in Chemistry, Biology and/or Mathematics to gain breadth and additional depth of knowledge.

A significant number of Chemistry students have the opportunity to work as laboratory assistants to acquire additional hands-on laboratory experience beyond their coursework. Students have access to leadership and service opportunities participating in the Tetra Delta science club, by serving as a laboratory assistant or teaching assistant/grader.

Students majoring in Chemistry must complete an internship or a research project. This teaches students to problem-solve in an open-ended situation unlike what they might experience in laboratory assignments. Students also are required to write and present their work at the Concordia University Research and Scholarship Symposium, giving them practice with scientific writing and presentation.

Students who find fulfillment in this course of study have an appreciation for all aspects of Chemistry, possess or can acquire a strong mathematics background, are motivated, hard-working, self-starters and are able to work well with their fellow students, lab assistants and professors.
