Mission
The College of Education prepares professionals in a Lutheran liberal arts environment for life-long learning and service in teaching, research and leadership in our diverse and global community.
In order to accomplish this mission, the College of Education has organized into four academic departments: Child and Family Education Kinesiology and Health Sciences Teacher Education Graduate Studies in Education Emphasis: Classroom Instruction Emphasis: Classroom Instruction (with K-12 Reading license) Emphasis: Differentiated Instruction Emphasis: Early Childhood Emphasis: Educational Leadership Emphasis: Family Life Education Emphasis: Sports Management
Our Conceptual Framework - Educator as Professional Decision Maker, Reflective Practioner, and Adaptive Expert - informs the content and practice in the College of Education. A coordinated set of courses and field experiences provides graduates and completers with opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and personal qualities in the context of our urban and diverse environment.
The College of Education offers the following:
18 liberal arts-based Bachelor's degree programs and other programs that lead to recommendation for teaching licensure in Minnesota. All programs are accredited by the Minnesota Board of teaching and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE; continually since 1969). All licensure programs may also be completed by those who already have a degree.
2 Post-Baccalaureate programs that lead to licensure in Minnesota: Special Education (K-12, Learning Disabilities) Special Education (K-12, Emotional Behavioral Disorders)
5 Bachelor's degree in the Liberal Arts Child Development Child Learning and Development Community Health Science Family Life Education Kinesiology (a variety of emphasis areas available)
5 Undergraduate minors Bilingual Education (add-on license) Community Health Science Education Special Education Teaching English as a Second Language
