ShiromiTheology Major Pre-Deaconess Program BA
"I've learned how to be a servant of God."
When Shiromi first came to Concordia, becoming a Deaconess wasn't on her mind.
In fact, it was the psychology program that first grabbed her attention.
That all changed, however, once she started volunteering to do Bible studies with shut-ins at the Lexington Care Center.
For Shiromi, the decision to switch to the Pre-Deaconess program was made because the emphasis was more on social interaction and acts of service.
"Serving another with not only friendship but with the Word of God displays how Christ uses his church as active members in society. It demonstrates communicating the Gospel of Christ in just a simple act of care."
Her education has gone far beyond the classroom at Concordia.
Shiromi says that she learned "how to guide people to use their strong points to improve upon their weak points."
Participation in five stage plays as well with the Gospel News Players provided an outlet for her creative side. With her strong college education in place she will receive further deaconess training at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
