When Phil arrived at Concordia in the fall of 2002, he had no idea that his education at Concordia would lead him to medical school.
His original plans were for a church work career, but as he began to explore a career in medicine he realized that a "Christian environment was the perfect setting to study science and ask tough questions."
Now as a graduate of Concordia he is ready to face the next phase of his life at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Already called "Dr. Phil" by his friends, this future doctor realizes that practicing medicine is another route to serving God.
"Through my time at Concordia I've discovered my life's calling. Concordia has given me a quality education and helped me to develop the skills necessary to succeed in medical school and beyond."
The classroom experience at Concordia was a large part of the excellent education he received.
"For an internship I spent a summer working with a biology professor on identifying a set of genetic markers of a species of invasive wetland grass.
The research experience gave me the opportunity to put into practice everything I'd been learning in the classroom. I felt more like a collaborative colleague than a student."
