"To receive a private education while playing Division II athletics was invaluable."
With their joint acceptances into the Mayo Clinic Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program, a program that only takes 29 new students annually, Justin and Lyndsey are continuing down the path that they have shared at Concordia for the last four years.
Outstanding scholars and athletes, they were pleased by how Concordia gave them the opportunity to excel in sports at the Division II level while also preparing them well academically.
For them, the emphasis between being a student and being an athlete has been equal.
"Concordia has found a balance between the two," Lyndsey says. "The willingness of professors to work with athletes is something most larger universities would overlook."
Justin furthers that thought when he says, "Concordia gave me the chance to be a successful athlete and more importantly a successful student."
Experiences outside of the classroom also provided a valuable education for the pair. For Justin, it was an internship with Concordia's athletic trainer that showed him first hand how to work with injured people who were trying to return to the field.
For Lyndsey, working with a soccer team of young Somali children gave her the chance to get involved in the community and to learn more about people of other cultures.
